Sustrans’ Engineering Team in Scotland oversees the whole-life development of high-quality, safe walking and cycling routes across Scotland. From making improvements to National Cycle Network routes, to ensure they are safe and accessible for everyone to use, to building new routes linking new developments to existing services and travel links, the team develop infrastructure to make it easier for people to walk and cycle.

We have specialist knowledge in walking, cycling and urban design as well as highways, civil engineering, health and safety and project management.

Our works is in line with key legislation including the Construction Design and Management Regulations (CDM) 2015, the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB), the Equality Act 2010, and various policy guidance and innovation associated with the design and construction of active travel infrastructure.

We feed this knowledge into Sustrans’ policies and best practice guidelines.
